New Orleans (4-1) is tied for the second-best record in the NFC and is a game up on Carolina in the NFC South.

Speaking of the Panthers, last week Jacksonville (2-3) fell behind early to them at home as Christian McCaffrey ran wild on the Jaguars’ defense. Jacksonville never quit, however, and pulled to within one with less than six minutes left in the game, but the offense wasn’t able to come up with the big play late as Carolina held on for a 34-27 win. Jags rookie wide receiver D.J. Chark Jr. was outstanding in the loss, finishing with 164 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions.

The Saints lead the all-time series, 4-2. For games played in Jacksonville, the Jaguars hold an advantage of 2-1. The Saints have won the three most recent meetings.

Fournette has served as the key component in the Jaguars’ running attack. His 95 rushing attempts are more than three times the combined total of the rest of his teammates. He has rushed for 512 yards, more than twice as much as all the other Jaguars combined. He has scored the only touchdown on the ground so far this season. His average of 102.4 rushing yards per game ranks as third highest in the league. His average per carry, 5.4 yards, is the ninth-best in the NFL.

The Saints’ rushing defense has improved over the course of the season. They allowed 180 yards on the ground in the season opener but reduced that amount to 115 and then to 108 in the second and third games, respectively. New Orleans has held its last two opponents to 45 and 94 yards. They rank 16th in rushing defense but are tied for most rushing touchdowns allowed (seven).

Alvin Kamara has contributed to the Saints offense in multiple ways. Against Tampa Bay, he rushed for 62 yards on 16 carries, caught six passes for 42 yards and completed a pass to Josh Hill for 13 yards. He leads the team in average rushing attempts (15) and yards per game (68.4) and is second on the team in receptions per game (5.2) and receiving yards per game (48.2).

Taysom Hill is a Swiss Army knife for New Orleans. Against the Buccaneers, he connected on his only passing attempt for 18 yards to Michael Thomas. He also ran the ball twice for 14 yards. For the season, he has run the ball seven times for 43 yards in addition to catching four passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Other Saints diversified their contributions vs. the Buccaneers. Ted Ginn Jr. caught two passes for 35 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball once for a yard. Latavius Murray rushed seven times for 28 yards and hauled in both passes thrown his direction for six yards.

Chark leads the Jaguars in receptions (27), touchdowns scored (five) and average receiving yards per game (97). His 485 receiving yards are almost twice as many as the second-highest total on the team (Chris Conley’s 243). He is tied with Dede Westbrook for most targets on the team at 37 apiece. In other words, Chark is enjoying a very impressive start to his first season in the NFL.

The Saints’ defensive backs have been viewed as the weakest segment on that side of the ball. New Orleans has allowed an average of 255 passing yards per game, 19th in the league. The defense has recorded just two interceptions, which is tied for the third fewest. Their 15 passes defended rank near the bottom as well. The pass rush has done its part, registering 16 sacks (tied for fifth) in five games.

However, the Saints showed improvement last week, allowing a net total of 158 yards through the air after deducting the yardage lost due to sacks. More impressively, they prevented Mike Evans from catching a pass for the first time in his six seasons in the NFL. Are they capable of repeating such a performance against Chark and Jacksonville’s other pass catchers?

So far, the Saints have exceeded the expectations of the most wildly optimistic of their fans. Drew Brees was diagnosed as needing at least six weeks to recover from his thumb injury. Realistically, the fans hoped to split the six games during his absence. After three straight wins, the Saints have already achieved that goal at the minimum. They won have two games against opponents who made the playoffs last season during that span.

Despite the loss at Carolina, the Jaguars remain firmly in the race for the AFC South title. They trail the Colts and Texans by only one game for first place. They need this game to remain on the heels of their division rivals.

This will be the first meeting between the two members of the 2017 draft class, as Alex Smith was still starting for the Chiefs in that game. Oddsmakers opened the Chiefs as a 5.5 point favorite.

The Texans are battling for position in a wide-open AFC South right now. They’re coming off a big 53-32 win over the Falcons on Sunday, which helped them improve to 3-2. They’ll have a much more difficult time here on the road against an elite Kansas City team. Watson is obviously capable of putting up huge numbers, but Houston’s erratic offensive line will need to keep him upright here.

The Chiefs are coming off one of their toughest losses of the Mahomes era. Kansas City suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, losing at home to the Colts on Sunday Night Football in an ugly game. Even as huge favorites, they only mustered 13 points. It’ll be very interesting to see how the now 4-1 Chiefs bounce back from that one.

The Texans have been inconsistent in 2019, and they’ll be looking to pick up their biggest win of the season on the road in Kansas City. The Texans are coming off a massive 53-32 win over the Falcons, which was impressive. But while it’s easy to get excited any time a team drops 50+ points, I think we need to add some context to the situation.

The Texans picked apart a Falcons defense that is a complete mess right now, and it’s a unit that is very close to getting Dan Quinn fired in Atlanta. I’m not sure we should draw anything away from that game, and the Texans looked terrible the week before. In Week 5, they lost to backup Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen, and only scored ten points at home. Deshaun Watson threw for only 160 yards in that game and averaged an abysmal 4.8 yards per attempt. I’m also not a huge fan of this coaching staff, and Bill O’Brien and Romeo Crennel continuously make poor decisions in big moments.

Watson still holds the ball too long at times, and he took six sacks against Carolina. He had a huge game against the Falcons, but I wouldn’t automatically bank on him having a similar performance here against a Chiefs secondary that isn’t nearly as bad as people think it is. Houston’s own secondary has proven to be a liability, and even in their win over the Falcons, they gave up 32 points. They’ll now be going on the road after two straight home games and getting their toughest test of the season in Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs are coming off their worst performance in quite some time. Kansas City picked up their first loss of the 2019 campaign this past week, falling 19-10 at home to the Colts as double-digit favorites. It was an embarrassing loss for them on Sunday Night Football, and they’ll have another big game here as they look to bounce back. The Chiefs are pretty banged up right now, and you’re going to need to monitor their injury report. Left tackle Eric Fisher is still sidelined, and left guard Andrew Wylie left the loss to the Colts with an ankle injury. If Wylie doesn’t play, the Chiefs will be without the left side of their offensive line. Patrick Mahomes also picked up an ankle injury, and while he’ll play here, his mobility could be limited.

The status of receivers Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill also bears watching, and the Chiefs could be very shorthanded for this one. While the offense generates most of the discussion for this team, I’ve actually been pretty impressed by the defense. The defense was a disaster last year, and it’s the reason they didn’t make the Super Bowl. They completely overhauled the unit this offseason, bringing in new additions like pass-rusher Frank Clark and safety Tyrann Mathieu. The two acquisitions are both paying off, and they’ve led to a revitalized Chiefs pass defense. They’re 11th in the league in both completion percentage allowed and yards per attempt allowed, which is all this team needs considering they have Mahomes under center

The Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings meet in Minneapolis on Sunday in a matchup of 3-2 teams that still have hopes of contending in the NFC. After a sluggish start, the Eagles have posted back-to-back victories over the Packers and Jets and hope to extend their streak on the road. The Vikings picked up their first road win of the season last week against the Giants and return home where they are 2-0 with convincing victories over the Falcons and Raiders.

This marks the third straight season these two teams have met. The first of these encounters was in the NFC Championship Game during the 2017 season. Philadelphia won 38-7 at home and then went on to defeat New England in Super Bowl LII. Minnesota got some payback last season, edging the Eagles 23-21 in Minneapolis in Week 5. Carson Wentz and Kirk Cousins each threw for more than 300 yards in that game.

Philadelphia’s defense has been a tale of two stories thus far. Against the rush, the Eagles are No. 1 in the NFL, holding teams to just 63 yards per game. That could be tested against Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, who is second in the league in rushing yards (542) and is averaging nearly six yards per carry. On the flip side, Philadelphia’s pass defense has been suspect (271.2 ypg, 27th) as injuries have once again impacted that side of the ball. The Eagles’ makeshift secondary could be in for a long day against Minnesota’s talented wide receiver duo of Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, especially considering quarterback Kirk Cousins is coming off of his best game of the season.

The key for Philadelphia is if the front four can generate enough pressure to force Cousins into mistakes or will Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz have to send five or more pass rushers to get pressure on him. The blitz could be effective but it also opens up the potential for big plays through the air with fewer defenders available to cover the Vikings’ pass catchers.

One of the keys to the Eagles’ current two-game winning streak has been running the ball. Philadelphia has totaled 260 yards on the ground in the last two games alone. Jordan Howard has been at the center of this production. After averaging less than four yards per carry in his first three games, Howard went for nearly six per rush two weeks ago vs. Green Bay and has four total touchdowns (three rushing) in his last two games. The Eagles will need to stay balanced on offense, as an effective running game not only opens head coach Doug Pederson’s playbook even more, it helps take pressure off of quarterback Carson Wentz, who has been inconsistent through the first five games.

Running or throwing the ball against this Vikings defense is easier said than done. Minnesota is once again among the best units in the NFL, as the Vikings rank in the top 10 in all four major categories. They are giving up just 14.6 points per game, have collected 15 sacks, and have recorded seven takeaways over the first five games. Pro Bowl defensive end Danielle Hunter is among the league leaders with five sacks while his partner in crime, Everson Griffen, is not too far behind (3.0). They are two reasons why Minnesota boasts one of the top defensive lines and will be a handful for Philadelphia’s offensive line. But it doesn’t let up in the back seven. Anthony Barr is a top-notch linebacker and safety Harrison Smith patrols center field with the best of them. Wentz’ ball security and decision-making will be crucial if the Eagles want to have any success moving the ball against this defense.

Both Philadelphia and Minnesota have defensive lines that can get after the opposing quarterback. Both have talented running backs and wide receivers. The Vikings have the advantage in the secondary but the Eagles have the better quarterback. Simply put, Kirk Cousins feasts on bad teams and struggles when he plays a tougher opponent. Philadelphia not only fits that bill, but the Eagles also may be hitting their stride after a turbulent first three weeks. This game will come down to the final moments, with the visitors prevailing by the smallest of margins against a team they’ve edged before.

This Sunday is Miami two of the worst…if not THE TWO WORST teams in the NFL will face off. The winless REDSKINS will head south to take on the also winless Miami Dolphins. Coming into 2019, many expected the Dolphins to be bad, but no one expected how the REDSKINS have done so far. Of course, no one thought of the Skins as a contender, but certainly, no one expected this bad of a season. The first five games have been so awful that Washington REDSKINS owner, Dan Snyder, pulled the trigger this week and fired head coach, Jay Gruden. Now the man calling the shots for the Skins will be Bill Callahan. Will the team respond positively, or will Washington continue to lose week after week? Many questions are surrounding both Washington and Miami, and trust me, none of them will be answered this Sunday. The only people who will even pay attention to this trash are Dolphin fans, Redskin fans, and degenerates like us that for some reason think we can win a few bucks on this complete S–t Show of a “game.”

Although both teams are winless and Miami is at home, Washington is a 3.5 point favorite over the Dolphins while the total points are set at 41 combined. Showdowns like this are my least favorite to have to predict because you really do not know where the team’s heads are at. This is why I typically take the underdog in these games; it is almost like a preseason game where no one is a true favorite.

Call me crazy, but I like Miami at home plus the points. Why? To be honest, there is no statistical logic or reasoning behind my pick. The actual reason is simple… Both of these teams suck, and anyone GETTING points in a game like this get my vote, especially the home team over a road visitor who just fired their coach. Listen, in these types of games, ANYTHING is possible. Both teams are reeling, and you never know how certain teams and/or individual players respond to adversity. Maybe Miami wants to lose…well, as an organization, of course they do, they want that top pick, but the “organization” is not playing…players whos careers and jobs are on the line are, and they do not want to lose, trust me. Do you think a marginal quarterback or defensive back for the Dolphins want to be replaced with a top-five first-round pick in 2020? HELL NO! The point is, both of these teams are going to play their asses off on Sunday, regardless of how bad they are.

It appears that the Redskins will go with Case Keenum as their starting quarterback, which makes many wonder just how bad Dwayne Haskins has looked. You would think at this point, the Skins would throw in the towel on 2019 and let their future QB get reps…or is he not the future? It will be very interesting to see what Washington does in the first round of the draft this year, and the way it looks, they will be picking HELLA EARLY in said draft. Back to the Redskins offense, they are bad, but they could potentially have some success against the Dolphins defense, especially in the passing game. The Dolphins are ranked 32nd in the NFL in points allowed with over 40 a game. However, the Redskins are not much better. Washington ranks 30th, allowing 30.2 a game. As for the offenses, Washington and Miami also rank 30th and 32nd. The Dolphins, of course, are 32nd in the league in scoring averaging about six points a game…yeah, that is right…the Miami Dolphins average less than a touchdown per game. The Redskins, who rank just two spots better, are scoring around 14 per contest. Statistically, yeah, Washington may appear better on paper, but not by much. Both teams have issues on both sides of the ball

This Sunday, I see a semi high scoring game… at least “high scoring” for what you usually expect from these two teams. Yes, I know these two teams do not look like they will be putting up huge numbers, but I see it happening. Case Keenum will play good enough to score points on the Dolphins bad defense, and I also feel that the Miami Dolphins will be able to finally muster up some sort of offense against a Washington defense that has their own issues we already discussed. It will be an odd game that one of these teams will end up winning something like 23-21. With that, you gotta take the Dolphins at home over a reeling Redskins team.

The rookie sensation—who came back to earth last week in a 28-10 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings—will now face the toughest test of his young career against the undefeated Patriots. Not only will Jones need to outduel future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, a player approximately 20 years his senior, but he’ll also have to navigate a defense that leads the league in yardage allowed, points conceded and interceptions to do so.

To say that the oddsmakers don’t like New York’s chances on Thursday Night Football would be understating it. The books opened the Giants as a 15-point underdog, but that line has since shifted to NE -17. These Week 6 odds are the longest that the organization has ever faced, eclipsing the 15.5-point spreads they faced in 1983 against the Washington Redskins and 1995 versus the San Francisco 49ers. Big Blue lost both times, but that doesn’t mean that they are hopeless in this one. They did manage to cover in each of those contests and have overcome long odds before. The Giants outright won as 13.5-point underdogs on the road against the Denver Broncos during the 2017 season, and famously bested the 2007 Patriots in the Super Bowl as 12.5-point ‘dogs.

The public isn’t buying the G-Men in Week 6 though, as more than three-fourths of all betting slips (76%) and an even larger percentage of total cash (84%) wagered against the spread is on New England. The total on this one is a bit more polarizing, evidenced by 56% of tickets on the over, but 64% of money wagered for the under. Those bigger bets have caused shops to lower the line from 46.5 to 42.5 over the last few days. One factor in these trends is the sheer amount of injuries the Giants are dealing with, as they’ll go into Thursday Night Football without star running back Saquon Barkley, his backup Wayne Gallman, tight end Evan Engram and wideout Sterling Shepard. That’s a lot of offensive firepower to be missing, especially for a showdown with a defense that is breaking records for its prowess during the first third of the campaign.

The New England Patriots have a quick turnaround this week, taking on the New York Giants on just a four-day layoff.The Patriots have rolled to a 5-0 start with a pretty weak schedule. This week, they face a Giants team that’s rebuilding, but also playing with a spark behind rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

But Sunday’s win over the Redskins was a welcome sign of life for the flagging running attack. After leaning on Washington for most of the game, New England barreled down with Michel running behind undrafted rookie Jakob Johnson to great effect.

If they can keep that up against the Giants, that fares well for the offense as a whole, especially as the receiving corps deals with injuries.

The Patriots appeared to be using Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo as a stopgap solution before Ben Watson came back from suspension. Then the team up and released Watson.

Through four games, the duo has caught four passes combined, with most of Izzo’s catches coming when opposing teams have left him wide open.

With Julian Edelman dinged up and Phillip Dorsett dealing with a hamstring injury, the Patriots need to start targeting some other players on offense. Getting any consistent signs of life from the Izzo/LaCosse combo will be key in that.

The Patriots took a big jump in special teams rankings, going from 27th to 16th in the NFL by DVOA. It certainly helped that they got some solid punt returns. It didn’t help that Mike Nugent missed an extra point. However, they could be turning the corner in that department now that he got the jitters of the first kick out of the way.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come into week five riding a huge high after their 55-40 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Jameis Winston had a huge day, throwing for 385 yards and four touchdowns against the defending NFC champions.

The Bucs led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter before having the lead dwindle to five before pulling away late. Chris Godwin had career highs of 12 catches and 172 yards and two touchdowns. Sunday’s game was the highest-scoring game in Buccaneers’ history.

Two players that stood out on defense were Ndamukong Suh and Shaquil Barrett. Suh recovered a fumble of Jared Goff and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown with 1:06 remaining.

Barrett caused the fumble with his ninth sack already in the young season. If the Bucs are going to consistently compete, they will have to shore up the defense. They have given up 73 points in the last two weeks.

The New Orleans Saints find themselves in familiar territory a quarter of the way through the season—at the top of the NFC South. Their path to get there, however, has been different than in past seasons.

They have lost their quarterback Drew Brees to a thumb injury and subsequent surgery. He will be out 6-8 weeks. Teddy Bridgewater has taken over for Brees and played well enough.

He has thrown for 535 and two touchdowns in two games. Running back Alvin Kamara has been a mainstay in the Saints’ offense, rushing for 280 yards on 59 carries and catching 20 balls for 199 yards.

He has scored two touchdowns thus far on the season. Wide receiver Michael Thomas is tied for the lead in the NFL with 34 receptions for 361 yards and a touchdown.

MyBookie has the spread on the game is New Orleans -4.5 and the over/under is 47.5. The key to this game will be the Saints being able to stop Tampa Bay’s offense that all of a sudden is formidable with Jameis Winston playing well.

New Orleans’ offense will have to be better than they were Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys in order to keep up with Winston and the Bucs. At the same time, Tampa’s defense has allowed almost 30 points a game and Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas are not easy to deal with.

If Tampa can subdue just one of those two players, they will have a shot. This is a big “if”, and not something you should hang your hat on, especially with the game being in New Orleans. Take the Saints in this one.

Dirk Koetter has spent all week talking about what he has screwed up and how not giving the run game a chance or involving Calvin Ridley enough and I think he will make a concerted effort to do both of those things this week.

Austin Hooper is a matchup nightmare and I think we see him have a monster game in the middle of the Texans defense.

The Texans offensive line has allowed DeShaun Watson to be sacked 18 times in four games. If the Falcons coaching staff can’t come up with a plan to get to him, they deserve to get fired. Their secondary isn’t the best neither but once again it all comes down to the calling the right plays and coaching.

We know Grady Jarrett is gonna show up and here’s hoping the rest of the team does too. The Falcons will take this one but it’s gonna be too close for comfort.

With two explosive but struggling offenses, it may come down to who has the better defense. After a bad loss to Carolina last week, the Falcons defense has to face a hungry Deshaun Watson, who has been looking forward to this game for a long time. Add that in with the explosiveness of DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, I just cannot see the Falcons secondary being able to stop them.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The Falcons will win this one. They make their first trip to Houston since Super Bowl 51 with their season on the line. It’s almost too storybook to workout for an Atlanta team.

We will learn a lot about the state of the Brotherhood come Sunday. Despite career days by Deandre Hopkins and Deshaun Watson, the Falcons offense gets on track and the defense does just enough to win. Falcons in a shootout.

I think the Houston Texans beat the Atlanta Falcons behind the arm of Deshaun Watson and the hands of Deandre Hopkins. The Atlanta Falcons have looked awful in every game this season and show no signs of getting better. They leave receivers wide open and can’t get any pressure on the quarterback.

The offense has underachieved and the run game is non-existent. The team is unprepared and undisciplined and the Texans will be mad after losing 16-10 last week to the Carolina Panthers.

After a disappointing performance against the Panthers expect Watson to have an incredible game. He stayed late after the game working on things he needs to correct. Watson will have a 300-yard passing game with four passing touchdowns along with two rushing touchdowns.
